On the 31st of December 2025, New Zealand’s 2G and 3G mobile networks will be permanently shutdown. If your devices still rely on those older networks we need to get you upgraded, so you aren't left in the dark when that switch gets flipped.
Telco providers in New Zealand (2degrees, One NZ, and Spark) are shutting down the old 2G and 3G networks to make way for faster 4G and 5G services. It’s completely out of our control, and unfortunately means anything running off these networks will stop working. While we can’t stop this from happening, what we can do is help you get upgraded so there’s no disruption to your fleet management and tracking when the shutdown hits.
One NZ originally said 3G would be gone by August 2024, then they bumped it to March 2025, and now it’s lined up with their 2G shutdown in December 2025.Spark’s giving a bit more time as they’ve pushed their 3G shutdown to March 2026.2degrees is aiming for late 2025.
its not exactly clear-cut, is it? It appears to be a moving target.
With a few false starts, that’s exactly why we’re sticking with December 2025 as the key date. Most of the networks will flick the switch around then, and we’d rather have you sorted early than scrambling at the last minute.
This is frustrating, for both you and us, which is why we’re keeping it as straight-forward and cost-effective as possible – especially for our long-standing customers who’ve stuck with us over the years. At the end of the day, we just want to set you up with future-proof solutions so you can get on with your work without any interruptions.
If you’ve had an email, a phone call, or a pop-up in Fleetpin, it means you’ve got one or more devices still running off the old 2G or 3G network.
We’re working through the list of exisiting customers, but if you haven’t heard from us yet and think you might be affected, fill out this form, give our customer success a bell or flick us a message in the chatbox on Fleetpin and we’ll check for you.
