Founded by Andrew Simpson (Simmo), who runs the sessions in the field, and his wife Nicci, who manages bookings, fleet administration, and health and safety from the office, CARNZ Training delivers practical, hands-on training built on their core philosophy, “Live to Learn, Learn to Live.”

With a broad client base including government agencies, corporate fleets, and community groups across Aotearoa, CARNZ Training helps attendees understand not only the capabilities of their vehicles, but also their limitations, reducing risk for themselves, their vehicles and their teams.

When Spreadsheets Weren’t Cutting It

As CARNZ Training’s operations grew, keeping track of vehicles, trailers, and instructor movements became more complex. Manual systems and spreadsheets were time-consuming, hard to maintain, and didn’t provide the visibility they needed to meet health and safety requirements. They needed a better way to manage their fleet and reduce admin, something that could keep up with the pace of their work and the level of care they put into it.

A Kiwi Connection and Solution

Fleetpin first connected with CARNZ Training at the Fieldays Innovation Tent a number of years ago. “Nicci met [Fleetpin founders] Todd and Justin there, and was really impressed with the product,” says Simmo. They decided then that working with a trusted local provider like Fleetpin was the right move.

Fleetpin quickly became a key part of their daily operations, replacing spreadsheets, manual vehicle checks, and paper logs, while adding an extra layer of visibility and assurance for both Simmo and Nicci.

Confidence in Every Job

Simmo says, “The GPS tracking devices in the vehicles and on the trailers give us confidence in the security of our assets.”. For him, the visibility Fleetpin provides has been reassuring. Whether he’s travelling between jobs or working in remote parts of the countryside, he knows Nicci can see where he is, giving them both confidence in his safety. Fleetpin’s activity reporting has made a massive difference in their operations, allowing them to accurately pull historical vehicle mileage for quotes and tasking with the click of a button. They use Fleetpin to stay on top of REGO and WOF renewals too, saving time and cutting down on manual admin. “The [Fleetpin] system allows for ease of information with the vehicles compared to the manual way we used to do things,” says Simmo.

Safety in Action

CARNZ Training also use Safetrax, Fleetpin’s GPS rollover safety and critical alerting system, in their side-by-side used in training sessions. Simmo demonstrates Safetrax’s pre-roll warning in action by tipping the vehicle to its balance point with a trainee on board. Safetrax not only acts as a preventative rollover measure in his sessions and ensures the safety of both himself and attendees, but also gives a live demonstration of how the system reacts with instant audible and visual warnings when pre-set rollover thresholds are met. “It shows course attendees there are options for tracking when working alone,” says Simmo.

Simmo also highlights how important Safetrax’s critical alerting and automatic SOS features have been for his work. “I really like the fact that if something goes wrong, the unit [Safetrax] will send a call out either activated manually, or in the case of a rollover automatically.”

Fleetpin’s personal support and the team’s responsiveness have been invaluable for CARNZ Training.

“Ongoing support for Nicci in the office has been great,” Simmo continues. “Updates and new innovations on the system for our fleet management have helped reduce a lot of her manual inputting. And for me, as I travel so much, Fleetpin answering my emails or phone calls when I’ve been available has been important to us.”
